How does the Steam Deck withstand JerryRigEverything’s painful torture test? Spoiler alert: the console is as sturdy as it can be repaired.
With the Steam Deck Valve has produced a portable console PC hybrid for a niche of gamers. But how safe is it to take the hard-to-find gaming machine worth between $419 and $679 anywhere? If we YouTuber JerryRigEverything Believe me, it’s going to be really good!
Steam Deck torture test
As always, the YouTuber uses some not-so-scientific techniques to test if Valve’s console is a bit solidly put together. Of course, a plastic console is no match for a box cutter. The beautiful matte finish is easy to cut off the console.
The screen is also no match for JerryRigEverything’s diamond scratch bars. The torture test shows that the more expensive Steam Deck with a special anti-glare screen already gets permanent scratches at level 2. The regular version has a glass display that is only permanently damaged from level 7. Consumers should therefore know that the more expensive variant works better in environments with a lot of light. But you also have to be extra careful with it!
Then there’s the signature lighter and bend test. As for the heat test; the LCD panel goes out locally after a few seconds of heat, but the permanent damage is relatively limited.
The Steam Deck shines especially in the bend test, because the handheld PC passes with flying colors in the last torture test. With full power, the console is still barely bendable and absolutely undamaged. So you don’t have to worry about the console breaking in half.
Conclusion
The Steam Deck is excellently put together and is absolutely unbreakable with normal use. Be careful with the more expensive anti-glare version, because this screen is a bit more porous than the standard version! And if the console does break, the Steam Deck can still be repaired unparalleled.
