Regular and moderate consumption of wine would strengthen the immune system and therefore reduce the risk of death.
Scientists at the University of California (USA) conducted a study on monkeys with identical immune systems. They observed the impact of chronic alcohol consumption, and the immune response during vaccination.
For 14 months the primates drank either alcohol with or without moderation or water.
After 9 months, the researchers found that not all the monkeys drank as much alcohol and that depending on their consumption, their immune response to the vaccination was different.
Alcohol has an impact on vaccination
Indeed, researchers have found that alcohol abuse dampens the immune response, while moderate consumption improves it.
“It has long been known that moderate alcohol consumption is associated with reduced mortality,” says Ilhem Messaoudi, lead author of the study.
“This may seem surprising, but we can therefore conclude that moderate and regular alcohol consumption strengthens the body’s immune defenses,” says Ilhem Messaoudi. “Regularly drinking a little alcohol – like a glass of wine at dinner – therefore reduces the risk of death, particularly in cases of cardiovascular disease and strengthens the body’s defenses. On the other hand, excessive consumption has a very serious impact. negative on the immune system. “
Alcohol would also prevent the risk of stroke
According to researchers at Boston University Medical Center, drinking 38g of alcohol per day (two alcoholic drinks) would decrease the risk of having a heart attack by 17 to 21%. Be careful beyond this dose, the risk of having a stroke increases. Alcohol is only good for your health in moderation!
