Electric planes are the future. The Rolls-Royce electric plane is not only beautiful, but also quite fast.
Flight shame, it’s a popular word these days. Flying is seen as very polluting for the environment and you should therefore do as little as possible. Electric aircraft are seen as a possible solution. And there are quite a few of those. Including that of Rolls-Royce.
Rolls-Royce electric plane
A few months ago after the first flight has Rolls-Royce’s “Spirit of Innovation” reached a top speed of 387.4 MPH. This is about 600 km per hour. This is (for now) the speed record for electric aircraft, Gizmodo reported. It also claimed the top speed of 345.4 MPH over a course of 3 kilometers (1.86 miles) and the lowest time to an altitude of 3,000 meters (9,843 feet) (202 seconds). The records have yet to be officially checked, but in all likelihood they are correct. The old record is then pulverized.
The test flight, for that was it, was conducted on November 16. The plane made its maiden flight in September. So it is still in the testing phase. There is a significant chance that the plane can go even faster.
Innovation
The Spirit of Innovation is an old-school “tail-dragger” aircraft, with the steering wheel at the back. And with the hood slid far back. The device looks impressive and fast. It is powered by a 400 kW (535 hp), 750 volt motor. Rolls-Royce said it uses the “most powerful propulsion battery pack ever in aerospace,” with 6,480 cells.
Current electric aircraft are not yet practical. The batteries have 50 times less energy than jet fuel. Ideal for short trips, but not for longer distances. And that’s exactly what we use planes for.
