Great specialist in the respiratory tract (it helps clear the bronchi), theeucalyptus essential oil radiated is both decongestant, antibacterial, antiviral, expectorant, anti-fever and stimulant of the immune system. It also relieves runny nose.
8 recipes against winter ailments
- To relieve all ENT infections (viral or bacterial): 5 drops of radiated eucalyptus HE diluted in 5 drops of neutral oil (macadamia or sweet almond), in friction on the upper back, the solar plexus and the neck, to do in the evening at bedtime.
- Unclog the nose: 5 drops of radiated eucalyptus EO in a bowl of hot water, to inhale for 10 min. Or 5 drops on a tissue.
- Bring down the fever : 2 drops of eucalyptus EO in 1 c. c. of honey or on a neutral tablet, 3 or 4 times a day.
- Calm an otitis (from 4 years old): 2 drops of pure radiated eucalyptus EO, applied around the earlobe, to be repeated 3 times a day, over a period of 5 days.
- Soothe a sore throat: 2 drops of radiated eucalyptus EO + 2 drops of ravintsara EO, to be placed on a neutral tablet (or in 1 tsp of honey) then left to melt under the tongue, 3 times a day.
- Calm a wet cough: 1 drop of radiated eucalyptus EO + 1 drop of spike lavender EO in 2 drops of neutral vegetable oil (sweet almond, etc.), to be applied by massaging onto the sternum and upper back.
- Prevent the flu : 3 ml of radiated eucalyptus EO + 5 ml of ravintsara EO + 2 ml of niaouli EO: apply 5 drops of the mixture to the stomach, sternum, thorax and upper back, 3 times/ day.
- Disinfect indoor air when a family member is sick: 10 drops of eucalyptus EO + 10 drops of Scots pine EO, diffused for about 10 min, 3 times a day.
Precautions to take with radiated eucalyptus EO
Of all eucalyptus essential oils (there are 4 main ones), it is the only one that can be used in children and even toddlers (but not before 4 years and 7 years for the oral route). On the other hand, it remains prohibited during first 3 months of pregnancy and at the breastfeeding women.
People with asthma should use it with caution in the respiratory tract (risk of irritation).
