The effects of a good diet when a woman is pregnant would affect not one but two generations: this is the conclusion of the recent work of an American team.
We know the important role of the nutrition of pregnant women in the future good health of their babies. However, the beneficial effects could also depend on the previous generation …
Indeed, researchers found that women who favor nutritious foods during pregnancy not only benefit their children, but also their grandchildren. The latter thus display better health in the long term.
The study, conducted by an American team, was presented at the annual congress of theAmerican Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), which took place February 12-17 in Chicago. Starting in 1983, the team of Dr. Christopher Kuzawa from Northwestern University followed a cohort of more than 3,000 Filipino women over three generations.
In general, “the measurements of nutrition obtained when women of the second generation were small, or even in their own mother’s womb, are more reliable indicators of the weight of their future babies than that of their diet. ‘adulthood,’ explained Christopher Kuzawa, according to the site Top Health. In addition, “there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the amount of calories consumed during pregnancy has no noticeable effect on the baby.” On the other hand, one of the main factors remains “the question of diet before getting pregnant, as well as nutrition during the first days of development”.
