Olga Givernet, LREM deputy for Ain, spoke on Franceinfo about the ban on traveling more than 100 kilometers from her home. She asks that the custody of the grandchildren constitutes “one of the compelling family reasons” which justifies moving.
The hour of deconfinement has come. With it, new precautionary measures to combat the spread of Covid-19 come into effect. Indeed, if the derogatory travel certificate is no longer necessary to leave home, a new document is compulsory for public transport in Ile-de-France during rush hour. All users traveling between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. are concerned.
More broadly, the whole country should be concerned from the evening of May 11 — as soon as possible, since the state of health emergency law was not promulgated in time — by the ban on traveling more than 100 kilometers from one’s home. As with the derogatory travel certificate, exceptions are possible: these are “compelling reasons”whether professional or family.
“Wait a month or two” to offer his grandparents to move
As Christophe Castaner indicated on May 10 in Political issues of France Inter/Franceinfo/Le Monde/France Télévisionsthere is “no closed list”. Nevertheless, caution is in order. If the Minister of the Interior recommended “to wait a month or two rather than suggesting to his grandparents who are in the provinces, to come to Paris to see the youngest”, a petition from elected officials demands that grandparents be able to travel for a birth.
Another request for exemption from some: childcare. “What I want is for the care of grandchildren to be one of the compelling family reasons that requires” to move, reacted on May 10 on France info Olga Givernet, LREM MP for Ain. “For us who are parents, some of our children will go back to school only a few days a week, others not at all. And in the same family some will go, and some will not go”explains the chosen one.
“Grandparents have their role to play, and have a family bond to recreate”
Olga Givernet highlights the “need help with family logistics” implied by the return to work of some parents. For her, it would be illogical to ask justifications to grandparents who travel beyond 100 kilometers from their home while those who do so within the same department will not be the subject of any question. “The French have understood the need for caution”believes Olga Givernet, admitting however that Christophe Castaner “is right to appeal to intelligence” everyone in order to protect themselves and others.
“Grandparents have their role to play, and have a family bond to recreate”insists the deputy, asking to “do not mother these people who are responsible adults”. Thus, she callsfamily consultation to make the best decision”. For the time being, the government has not yet reacted to Olga Givernet’s remarks on Franceinfo, which were also the subject of a forum appeared in the JDD.
