After the UFC-Que Choisir denounced ineffective sunscreen products a few days ago, a survey confirms the confidence of the French in sunscreens.
Sunscreen, the sun ally of our holidays. It is available for all skin types and activities. According to an Odoxa poll, two out of three French people trust him, despite the UFC-Que Choisir alert. At the beginning of July, the consumers’ association pointed out the risks of “very high protection” children’s sun products (index 50 and 50+). The UFC-Que Choisir has tested 17 products, including organic products or major brands. Result: while all are effective against UVB, a third do not adequately protect against UVA, despite the claims displayed on the labels. These rays do not cause sunburn but promote skin cancer. The association also plans to file a complaint against 5 manufacturers for “deceptive commercial practice” and “deception”. For her, the brands questioned (Clarins, Bioderma, Biosolis, Alga Maris and Lovea) do not comply with European and French standards.
Protected holidaymakers
63% of survey participants have heard of the association’s analysis, yet they remain overwhelmingly confident about the effectiveness of sunscreen products. Note however: only 5% of respondents trust him completely. But this does not prevent holidaymakers from protecting themselves: seven in ten French people often or systematically use a sunscreen when they are exposed to the sun. The Odoxa poll reveals a difference between the sexes: women are more diligent than men (78% against 64%). If dermatologists recommend to always protect yourself with a good layer of sunscreen when exposing yourself, they especially recommend avoiding exposure as much as possible. Do not bask the pill during the hottest hours (12 pm-4pm) and wear light but long clothes, for example, are still a good way to stay protected in all circumstances.
