2h30 of sport per week improves the quality of life of patients
The health authorities are constantly recommending the practice of a sport, from an early age and for as long as possible. This advice seems to be particularly suitable for people at risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.. In any case, this is what the conclusions of a team of researchers, published in the Journal of Parkinson’s Disease.
To establish this finding, these researchers at Northwestern University, Chicago, United States, looked at the cases of 3,408 patients, all with the first signs of this neurodegenerative disease. For two years, these patients were questioned about sports habits while their aptitudes and the progression of the disease were analyzed by doctors. At the end of these two years, when the researchers analyzed the data they had collected, they concluded that a physical activity of at least 2h30 per week allowed a real decline of the disease and a significant improvement in the quality of life of patients.
To ward off Parkinson’s, coffee, vitamins and ibuprofen have also been proven to work.
Concretely, 150 minutes of physical activity would allow patients with signs of Parkinson’s disease to slow the onset of the first very debilitating symptoms such as movement difficulties, limb stiffness and tremors.
Many scientific studies have looked at ways to prevent and slow the progression of this neurodegenerative disease which affects 1.5% of the population over 65 in France, i.e. 150,000 people. These studies have revealed in particular that the consumption of coffee, vitamins but also ibuprofen would be real weapons against Parkinson’s disease.
