The Morphée Network allows people with sleep disorders to carry out an assessment and be referred to the right consultation.
In our modern societies, man sleeps little – too little. While studies are accumulating on the lack of sleep of the French and on the harmful effects associated with these short nights, it seems more than ever necessary to respond with solutions adapted to the many disorders observed among the population. In France, two out of three people encounter difficulties linked to a lack of sleep. But how to assess the needs of this population, when they differ from one individual to another?
“When sleep disorders persist for more than 3 months without noticeable improvement, a specialist assessment may be necessary,” explains the Morphée Network, which brings together sleep specialists, in a press release. (…) Currently, somnology is not a recognized medical specialty, although trained and competent doctors exist. Bad medical guidance can lead to a real loss of time and efficiency in the treatment of these pathologies ”.
To overcome this difficulty, the Morphée Network is launching a ” sleep questionnaire ” in line. Free and anonymous, it offers people suffering from sleep disorders the possibility of carrying out an assessment of their symptoms, of finding the medical orientation most suited to their case, and of obtaining useful initial advice while waiting for them. a possible consultation.
“Developed by doctors and psychologists specializing in sleep, this sleep questionnaire constitutes an online help system for the guidance of adults suffering from sleep disorders for more than three months”, we can read.
Funded by the SFRMS (French Society for Research and Sleep Medicine), the patient referral algorithm has been scientifically validated by an observational study.
The visitor is therefore invited to answer a series of questions which will make it possible to assess and analyze the symptoms he encounters, the possible organic or psychological causes of his disorders, his daily habits (consumption of tobacco, alcohol, practice of a sport…), their sleeping habits, their behavior, their state of health and any current treatments, as well as their family history.
At the end of the questionnaire and in a few seconds, all the responses are analyzed and summarized as part of a complete report, generated in pdf format. This section provides the patient with information intended to guide him to the specialist best suited to the symptoms he presents (insomnia, sleep apnea or multiple or complex sleep disorders).
Avoid overloaded consultations
“All these pathologies can be taken care of by a somnologist or a multidisciplinary sleep center, but the consultations are often overloaded, with long delays,” recalls the Morphée Network.
In fact, in the event of insomnia or sleep apnea, faster alternatives exist (doctors or psychologists specializing in behavioral or cognitive therapy, pulmonologists, ENT or cardiologists, trained in sleep, etc.).
“Answering these different questions is already a first step towards recovery for the patient, because he is led to take a step back from his sleep disorders and to think about the various factors, in his environment or in his habits. , potentially triggers of his disorders, thus carrying out a true online evaluation of his sleep ”.
