If the French market for new cars records a timid increase of 0.5% in 2021, certain models have plummeted in the stats. Heavily impacted by delivery times or totally penalized by the penalty, here are the 30 models that have sunk the most in the rankings.
After the best-selling models in 2021, here are the ones that have fallen the most this year. For some, these are end-of-career versions that remained in the catalog for a while. But it is above all the penalty that got the better of the majority of vehicles…

End-of-career models
The weight of the penalty
Many sports models are present in this classification, BMW M8 Gran Coupé (-61.5%), Nissan GT-R (-63.6%), Audi RS5
(-68.1%)… The penalty is probably not the only cause of the fall, other models also affected (Porsche 911 or Ferrari F8) sold very well. On the other hand, for the Ford Mustang (-96.1%), the state tax clearly weighed in the balance: €40,000 penalty for a model starting at less than €55,000. Fortunately, in 2022, the amount of the tax is now capped at 50% of the price of the car.
Some models have found the parade: switch to the side of utilities to overcome any penalty. This is the case of the Suzuki Jimny, heavily penalized in its classic version to the point of being totally shunned, it returned to the catalog in the spring of 2021 with one less rear seat, allowing it to slip through the tax net.
