A fraud repression survey shows that 80% of dentists do not inform their patients of the amount of care when this is mandatory.
Four in five dentists are in violation, according to investigation Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF).
This check carried out with 553 dental surgeons and resulting in 360 warnings reveals that only 17% of dentists provide their patients with a detailed estimate. However, this has been mandatory since August 1, 2012. It must indicate the selling price of the prosthesis, the cost of installation as well as the amount of the technical platform.
While some have pointed out the lack of information around this new estimate, or a delay in updating the computer software used to edit it, a “large number” of dentists simply do not want to communicate it to patients. . A reluctance deemed “worrying” by the repression of fraud even though this estimate makes it possible to know in advance the amount of support and reimbursement.
Improve the quote
In addition, “the investigation made it possible to highlight that the model of estimate contains imperfections which are detrimental to good information and especially which it is difficult to understand for the consumer”, noted the agents of the DGCCRF. The latter thus underline the importance of improving this estimate to make it more readable.
This check also showed that nearly 3 in 10 dentists do not post their fees in their waiting rooms. In view of these shortcomings, the DGGCRF considers that the supervision of the dental sector must be maintained.
