Babies and children are particularly sensitive to pollutants in the air. These are not only bad for their health but also have an impact on children’s brain development. This is what a study carried out on children in the United States has shown. According to researchers, there is a link between pollution and children’s IQ. Pregnant women who would have been particularly exposed to air pollution and particularly that of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (coal, diesel fuel, oil, tobacco) would give birth to children whose IQ would be lower. Children, followed from the womb until the age of five and highly exposed to pollution, especially in New York, have an IQ lower than others by 4.5 points on average.
