For 8 years now, the French government has been involved in the fight against breast cancer. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the National Cancer Institute (INCa) are acting for this cause by inviting all women aged 50 to 74 to get tested. Thus, every two years, they benefit from a mammogram covered 100% by health insurance. In 2011, more than 2,400,000 women aged 50 to 74 underwent a mammogram as part of the organized screening program, ie 52.7% of the target population. The goal is to reach more and more women, to inform and sensitize them.
