It’s almost winter! And who says “winter” necessarily says “vegetable soups”… It must be said that soup is “the” healthy meal par excellence: low in calories, this vegetable-based dish is super-rich in vitamins and in minerals, and you can use it in 1001 ways so you never get tired of it.
Better: for people who pay attention to their figure, the soup constitutes a super slimming dinner, provided it is accompanied by a slice of wholemeal bread and a dairy product (a small piece of cheese for example).
But beware. As explained by Mary Sabat, an American nutritionist, interviewed by our American colleagues from SheFindsthere is one type of soup to avoid like the plague when trying to lose weight – industrial soups!
Too much salt in industrial soups
Whether in bricks, jars, bags or even cans, industrial soups share the same fault: they are generally too concentrated in sodiumthat is to say in salt.
“Excessive sodium consumption can cause water retention but also blood pressure problems, which can lead to cardiovascular problems.underlines the nutritionist. High salt consumption also tends to increase thirst: but if you quench this thirst with sugary drinks, it can lead to weight gain.“
As a reminder, the recommended sodium intake is (maximum) 800 mg per day for an adult; however, according to ANSES (ciqual table), a brick or sachet soup totals on average 700 mg of sodium per 100 g…
If you want to lose a few kilos or if (simply) you want to take care of your cardiovascular health, the best thing is to cook your own winter soups – carrot soup, pumpkin velouté, chorba, vichyssoise… There is no shortage of ideas!
