The history of your Laboratories is unusual, could you tell us about it?
I have suffered from psoriasis since I was 15 years old. I thought I had tried everything when in 2005 a Guinean friend told me about an ancestral treatment from her country which has real virtues against psoriasis. Despite my fear of being disappointed for the umpteenth time, I try … and there, after a month, all my traces of psoriasis have disappeared. Faced with these extraordinary results, I try to understand, and realize that this ancestral treatment is made from an oil almost unknown, Carapa procera, which can only be found in a few ethno-pharmacopoeia treatises. This is how the adventure of Laboratoires Mascareignes began: my illness enabled me to create my company. Since then, independent clinical studies have shown an efficacy of 94% on psoriasis, and this treatment has become a Medical Device.
Do you continue to associate Guinea with your laboratories?
Absolutely ! We continue to source our supplies from the small village where I discovered the care for all raw materials. We are in a logic of fair trade. We have also created an NGO with the women of the village to try to help them in their daily life. We even went further, by planting an eco-forest of Carapa procera right next to the village. This transforms the lives of the women who had to travel for miles in the bush to collect here and there the nuts of this tree which has never grown except in the wild so far.
What is the main objective of Laboratoires Mascareignes?
I would say first of all that we aim to provide relief to people in pain with very difficult to manage skin problems like psoriasis, but also dander, redness and itching in general. However, I personally see in this adventure, a mission to accomplish: to contribute to the well-being of our customers, our suppliers, but also to our modest extent, of the planet by valuing a forgotten resource, by offering truly natural care and by planting for the future.
