Mercedes-AMG is still refining its plug-in hybrid hypercar One, the first deliveries of which are now expected in early 2022. The development of the car therefore continues to lag behind, but it is progressing.
Announced with a concept car in 2017 for 2020 then postponed to 2021, and expected at the last Munich Motor Show in its final configuration, the Mercedes-AMG One is still behind schedule. The development of the plug-in hybrid hypercar does not cease to end and new prototypes were surprised during a test session, more successful than ever. One of them was almost devoid of camouflage.
Highlighted aerodynamics
The red One photographed almost naked reveals new details. Note in particular the extractors located on the front fenders, closed on these pictures, which could therefore be mobile. The mirrors are larger than those of the Project One concept, and the rear longitudinal spoiler which extends the roof air intake now bears the inscription “E Performance”, synonymous with plug-in hybrid sports models at Mercedes-AMG. We note in passing that it displays a black finish, like the back cover, which could indicate a material different from the rest of the body, such as carbon fiber already confirmed for the coupe’s unibody chassis.
An F1 engine to adapt for the road
According to the latest rumors from the hallway, the first deliveries of the 275 Mercedes-AMG One would now be scheduled for the first quarter of 2022. The engineers of the manufacturer at the star were notably delayed by difficulties in Comply the hypercar engine with European environmental regulations.
The car is powered by a 1.6 L turbo V6 associated with four electric motors, a mechanism directly derived from the Mercedes F1, which has just won the eighth consecutive constructor title. The One’s powertrain develops “over” 1,000 hp and its thermal unit can take 11,000 rpm. From concordant sources, a 48 V electrical system dedicated to pollution control systems has been added to that of 12 V which supplies the accessories and that of 800 V linked to the traction battery. In view of these new pictures, the end of the development of the car is imminent. See you in a few months to discover the final specifications. At least we hope so.
