Contrary to appearances, some foods are not at all suitable as part of a diet to lose weight, or for a diabetic.
Low-sugar products
THE light products, reduced in sugarcan be as high or even higher in calories than their non-light counterparts, shows a recent survey by the magazine UFC What To Choose.
Thus products bearing claims “no added sugar”, “reduced in sugar”, “light” can contain more salt or more fat to compensate for the lack of sugar. Moreover, what the UFC Que Choisir reminds us is that products with no added sugar do not contain not necessarily less sugar. The product can still be very sweet due to its base ingredients. So beware of allegations.
They may also contain moreadditives and sweetenerswhose deleterious effects on health are regularly suspected.
Inserm researchers recently demonstrated that people who consume the most sweeteners (in particular aspartame and acesulfame-K) presented a higher risk of developing cancer, all types of cancer combined. In a new study, published in September 2022 in the British medical journal, researchers from Inserm, INRAE, Cnam and Sorbonne Paris Nord University, suggest an association between the general consumption of sweeteners and a increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
The magazine UFC Que Choisir is precisely concerned about the presence of additive substances in 0% syrups, in Light and yoghurts or even in “zero” iced teas. These may contain sucralose, acesulfame K or aspartame.
The hidden sugars
Sugar hides everywhere. If everyone knows that the sugars hidden in many industrial products such as biscuits, pastries, candies, sodas, etc. It is less known that it enters into the composition of many products, even salty ones. This is the case for aperitif biscuits, certain cold cuts or canned tomato sauces. The list is long and not exhaustive.
Worse than these products, there are those which benefit from a totally usurped dietary reputation. They are believed to be great for your health, not fattening or safe for diabetics. Error ! They are often full of totally hidden sugars whose presence cannot be suspected. So what are these products? Here are 8 main ones that appear to be traps due to excessive sugar content.
