Here is a valuable indicator of what has worried the French in recent months in terms of health.
What diseases have intrigued the French the most in recent months? Newpharma conducted a survey and identified the top 100 most searched diseases on the Internet in France in 2018.
endometriosis
The most searched disease this year on the web by the French is undoubtedly endometriosis (175,000 searches), a gynecological disease caused by an abnormal migration of cells from the endometrium (which coats the inner lining of the uterus) outside the uterus.
While 10 to 15% of women between the ages of 16 and 50 suffer from it, it takes an average of 7 years for the diagnosis to be made, a time that is far too long given the serious symptoms and serious consequences of this pathology. This perhaps explains the curiosity of the French for this disease. Recently, thehe National College of French Gynecologists and Obstetricians (CNGOF) has asked the State for help to set up expert centers for this pathology.
Charcot’s disease
Charcot’s disease comes second with 144,900 searches. Still unknown, this incurable and rare disease from which the famous scientist suffered Stephen Hawking, affects 5,000 to 7,000 patients in France, with an annual incidence close to 2.5 per 100,000 inhabitants. 10 to 20% of cases are genetic and hereditary, although certain environmental factors also favor the development of the disease. A recent study has in fact shown that excessive exposure to diesel exhaust fumes increases the risk of developing Charcot’s disease.
Lyme disease
Lyme disease has been talked about a lot this year and is therefore, unsurprisingly, part of the top 3 of the most searched pathologies (114,400 searches) on the Internet by the French. This disease of infectious origin, which occurs after a tick bite, can become general and serious.
Be careful though, not all ticks are infected. But if there is infection, it manifests itself after 7 to 14 days by a skin reaction at the site of the bite. If left untreated, it can become chronic and spread from the skin to the whole body. It will then give serious complications which can affect several organs (joints, brain, heart…). Rest assured, complications are easy to prevent because Lyme disease is easily treated when caught early.
fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is a complex disease, characterized by the existence of chronic diffuse pain throughout the body. It is also accompanied by various events such as sleeping troubles, fatigue and, in almost a third of cases, anxiety and mood disorders. It is an entity that is still poorly characterized due to the imprecision of the diagnostic criteria. Doctors only retain the disease once they have ruled out the other diseases responsible for widespread chronic pain. The mystery that surrounds this pathology undoubtedly justifies that it is one of the most searched diseases (110,000 searches) on the Internet by the French.
Then follow in order: Crohn’s disease (95,900 searches), an autoimmune disease causing chronic inflammation of the intestine (IBD) which progresses through inflammatory flare-ups and can affect the entire intestine , to the anus. Mononucleosis (92,100 searches), Psoriasis (90,500 searches), Scarlet fever (90,500 searches), Hemorrhoids (87,600 searches), Schizophrenia (79,400 searches), Shingles (74,260 searches), pulmonary embolism (74,090 searches) or again in thirteenth position, multiple sclerosis (74,090 searches).
