body grooming
More and more men are turning to wax and depilatory cream in addition to the razor. Body Grooming, or hair removal for men, is hot. The possibilities at a glance.
The argument that it’s fashionable not to be too hairy is just one of the reasons for hair removal. Some men can suffer from a lot of hair, which manifests itself, for example, in being always warm. Sweating and hygiene can also be reasons.
Wet or electric shaving
Most men shave every day; with an electrical appliance or wet with a razor. Today, the shaving systems are very advanced. You won’t soon see a man with a cotton ball on his face again.
Wet shaving is best done with a clean blade. Wet the skin and apply shaving cream. Then, without applying pressure, shave in the direction of the hair.
There are plenty of shaving systems for men, but they are often mainly intended for shaving your face. If you do want to remove hair from your legs with such a shaving system, make sure you use shaving cream and shave with the direction of the hairs. This prevents wounds and ingrown hairs.
laser therapy
The laser is adjusted to your skin color, hair color and the place of treatment. Laser can feel like a rubber band snapping against your skin. All areas of hair can be treated with laser therapy, with the exception of hair near your eyes.
During the treatment you will be given glasses for protection. Laser treatment is not cheap and takes a lot of time. You can have it done at a beautician or at a clinic. If you have excessive hair, you can be reimbursed (part of) the costs you incur for hair removal.
Elos technique
The Elos technique is similar to the laser treatment. Elos stands for Electric Optical Synergy. With a kind of scanner about 1.5 square centimeters of skin is treated with a flash of light. The radiation generates heat in the hair follicles. The cells stick together, so that a hair can never come out again. You will feel a slight tingling or in the worst case a small pain prick.
This technique works better in women than in men. This has to do with the hormone level and depth of the hair root. Like laser therapy, it is a fairly expensive treatment. You have to undergo several treatments; an average of six for your body and four for your face. Occasionally, a follow-up treatment is also required.
For hair removal with the Elos technique, it is best to go to a large clinic or well-known institute. An indication of the price: the belly costs around 220 euros each time, the neck about 120 euros and treating a back quickly goes towards 500 euros.
Cream or resin
Women have been depilating with cream and wax for years. It is one of the simplest ways to remove hair at home. You can buy resin or cream at the drugstore or pharmacy. There are more and more products on the market that can also be used to remove hair from men.
When depilating with a cream, the hair comes loose within 10 minutes after applying it. You slide the hair off with a spatula. But beware: allergic reactions can occur! So try the cream on a small area of skin first.
Hair removal with a depilatory cream is painless. Waxing, on the other hand, can be quite painful. The resin, from a jar or on a special strip, is warmed up and you press the area to be depilated. After about half a minute, pull it off in one movement, just like a plaster. The hair is then removed root and all.
