Pharmacists attesting to training will now be able to vaccinate their clients against influenza in two regions of France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle Aquitaine. The measure, set by a decree published in the Official Journal on May 11, is part of the latest Social Security finance law.
This authorization is granted on an experimental basis for a period of three years. It aims to improve vaccination coverage and thus prevent the seasonal flu epidemic. The goal: to prevent the patient from having to withdraw his vaccine at the pharmacy before going to his doctor or nurse to have it administered. The pharmacist must obtain the written consent of the client he is vaccinating and inform his attending physician.
A pre-vaccination interview to assess the risks
Not everyone is affected by this measure. Pregnant women or people who have never had a flu shot should follow the usual process. Likewise, pharmacists will carry out a pre-vaccination interview and if they observe “a particular risk (allergic reaction to a previous vaccine, anticoagulant treatment, etc.)”, they will refer the person concerned to their doctor, as specified in the text. .
The dispensary will receive 4.50 euros per vaccinated person when he has a vaccine prescription and 6.30 when the patient presents a cover slip sent by his health insurance fund. A lump sum of 100 euros will also be paid from five vaccinations.
In a press release, the representatives of pharmacists (Order, unions …) welcomed “this major advance for public health” but regret that “all adults” are not concerned. According to them, the experimentation should be extended to other regions. The unions of liberal doctors and nurses are more reluctant and fear in particular “a dismantling of their skills”.
