That’s what hair growth is like
Almost your entire body is covered with hair. Fortunately, it doesn’t get the same length everywhere. Even the hair on the head has a maximum length. A haircut with long, natural locks is therefore not for everyone.
The hair grows about the same speed all over the body, about 0.1 to 0.4 millimeters per day. Differences in hair length are therefore not caused by the growth rate. However, there is a difference in the way hair grows. Each hair grows according to a hair cycle.
Peace
Every hair root (follicle) has a period of active hair production. This is alternated with a period of rest, in which the hair no longer grows.
After the rest period, the hair is completely expelled from the skin and new hair begins to grow. On the arms and legs, this cycle lasts for several months, so that the hairs cannot grow longer than a few centimeters.
Hormones
The length of the cycles varies from person to person. As a result, not everyone can grow their scalp hair to the same length.
For a long time it was thought that hormones regulated the alternation of growth and rest. Hormones do indeed appear to have an influence, but they are not nearly as important as the regulation within the root itself.
Hair in the drain
The growth cycles of two adjacent hair follicles are not aligned. One may be in the growth phase, while the other is at rest.
Hair loss is therefore usually not such a striking phenomenon. You will only notice it by the hair in the comb or brush, or in the shower drain.
