Contrary to popular belief, eating pasta in the evening is not bad for your health! These starchy foods would reduce stress and insomnia… as long as they are not abused.
Many of us rely on a light meal in the evening, consisting mainly of vegetables, to avoid sleeping badly or gaining weight. This new study will therefore reassure many! According to American researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospitalityl, there is no harm in eating spaghetti, shells or other macaroni in the evening.
The study, published in the scientific journal The Lancet, explains that these dishes promote good sleep, but also help reduce stress and insomnia. The findings explain that “consumption of pasta promotes insulin synthesis, which facilitates the absorption of tryptophan bound to serotonin (which regulates mood) and melatonin (the sleep hormone)”. So yes, pasta can help us relax and sleep well, but beware, there are conditions!
Eat only a small amount
If you have the right to eat pasta in the evening, you must not forget the golden rule concerning the evening meal: it must not be too caloric. And yes, after this meal, we no longer exert ourselves since we go to sleep, and the body stores the excess calories. An evening meal must then be lighter if you do not want to gain weight. The ideal portion of pasta is 80 grams, 100 max. In addition, they must be eaten plain, because it is not the pasta that makes you fat, but the sauces! We therefore avoid Bolognese, or worse, pasta carbonara, and we have a light hand on Gruyère.
If you want your meal to be entirely beneficial, cook your pasta al dente for better digestion. Last tip: for the pasta to be even more digestible, check the type of flour used to make it. We thus bet on the whole pastabecause they are rich in fiber and will therefore be easier to digest.
