Dental surgery students are not afraid of anything. To protest against the tariff agreement, they walled up the entrance to the Health Insurance in Nancy (Moselle).
Some are slamming the doors, others have chosen to wall them up. It is that of the Health Insurance of Nancy (Moselle) which has paid the price for the anger of dental surgery students. On the night of February 8 to 9, an entrance to the CPAM of the capital was covered with concrete blocks, adorned with the hashtag #DENTger. The objective: to echo the silence of the Minister of Health on the file.
A 49.3 in disguise
As the student dentist strike movement wraps up its fourth week, the young demonstrators stood out with a bang – relayed by regional press. If they question Marisol Touraine, it is also because, since the start of the conflict, the Minister has spoken little on the subject. However, conventional negotiations are still at a standstill.
However, the period is decisive: the Health Insurance is currently trying to change the prices covered by its services. But the proposal did not convince either the unions or the students. In the absence of constructive discussions, therefore, arbitration prevails. Bertrand Fragonard was appointed to decide. This decision alarms the profession. The National Union of Dental Students thus denounces a “49.3 in disguise”.
The concern is justified to say the least. The copy provided by the Health Insurance offers a reduction in the price of prostheses in exchange for a slight increase in the cost of so-called conservative care (scaling, treatment of cavities, etc.). These advances are insufficient in the eyes of dentists installed or in training. They believe that the account is not there and that the pact would be unequal as it stands.
Reimburse preventive care
On the student side, the emphasis is on prevention. They want the new version of the tariff agreement to take better care of them. The unions demand in particular that the care intended to preserve the teeth be better paid, but also better supported, rather than focusing on prostheses.
A complete change of the landscape should therefore be considered. Because the students’ requests are precise. Future dentists want a reassessment of prices for caries treatment, but also for gum care and innovative techniques. These should simply be reimbursed.
To win this battle, the students are not shy. In addition to demonstrations, they regularly organize punch actions throughout the territory. In Lille, for example, the ring road was blocked by young people on foot.
