A judicial investigation is opened after the death of a patient operated on for the prostate at the hospital of Bourges (Cher). It will have to determine the responsibility of the surgeon.
After six months of waiting, the circumstances of the death of Henry Latour at the CHU de Bourges (Cher) will be the subject of a judicial investigation. The 60-year-old man died on January 14 while undergoing prostate surgery. An intervention a priori benign but which turned out to be fatal for him. From April, the surgeon-urologist was implicated.
Insults and agitation
During the intervention, the practitioner’s behavior would have presented an aggressive behavior and made several errors. In particular, the team complained of having been the object of insults. The patient reportedly lost more than five liters of blood before he died. The surgeon then declares a cardiac arrest.
But it was not until several weeks later, learning that the specialist was banned from surgery, that Henry Latour’s daughter asked for access to her medical file. According to the anesthesiologist’s report, revealed by The Parisian, “The surgeon entered the room that day” agitated, angry, speaking loudly “. “This is shit material again,” he says, before insulting a nurse. A coordinator of the block considers that “the surgeon is not in his normal state, inaccessible to any reasoning”. But there are no other urologists available to operate. “
An abnormal climate
Faced with these elements, the public prosecutor of Bourges decided to open a judicial investigation. “Elements provided by the management of the hospital, showing that the operation did not take place in a climate of normal serenity”, declared the prosecutor, Vincent Bonnefoy, at the microphone of theAFP. A judge will be appointed to carry out a forensic expertise on the medical file. It should provide a better understanding of why this usually benign intervention has gone so badly. Henry Latour’s family said they were satisfied with this development.
