Chromecast with Google TV extended with profiles

The Chromecast with Google TV now supports multiple profiles. This allows multiple users to use all options.

Google TV is a software shell from Google, which is placed over the Android TV operating system. The shell offers all kinds of options that you do not find standard on Android TV.

For example, the Chromecast with Google TV can recommend movies and series based on your viewing behavior. You can also see more content at a glance, from all kinds of sources. Think of Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max.

Google TV offers profiles

So you don’t have to view the offer per app. This all sounds nice and nice, but this only worked when you’re using Google TV as a single-person household. Until now then.

Google is rolling out support for multiple profiles to the Chromecast with Google TV. This allows multiple people to use the options of the software shell.

It is also the case that you will not have to deal with the recommendations that Google TV makes based on other people’s viewing behavior. As a result, the user experience finally becomes personal (again).

The update arrives via a server side update. Unfortunately you can’t really force it. But you can see if the options are available when you restart the Chromecast.
