The Vivo X Fold enters the market of foldable smartphones and can be compared fairly quickly with the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Maybe a little too soon.
The market of foldable smartphones is becoming more and more extensive and then you encounter a common problem. Now that you can choose from an increasingly wider range in a comparable price range, every foldable smartphone must have its own selling point.
Vivo X Fold
Initially, that’s bad news for the newly announced Vivo X Fold. The latest addition to the foldable smartphone market is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. It unfolds to a 8.03 inch screen and when you fold it, with a 6.53 inch screen when you fold it. This immediately has the disadvantage that the screen ratio on this small screen is a bit too ‘wide’.
Specs
The Vivo X Fold is also equivalent to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 in terms of specs. Think of 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. Also 120 Hz refresh rate on both screens is comparable. The Vivo has two fingerprint scanners: one for each screen (and they are located under the screen). Also, the Vivo has an extra camera to have four cameras in a fairly large island. Finally, Vivo seems to have made the screen a bit sturdier than Samsung: it could be folded about 300,000 times before causing mechanical problems.
With a converted price of 1,413 dollars (about 1,299 euros), the Vivo X Fold is slightly more competitively priced than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which should cost about 1,499 dollars in the US. So it seems that Vivo is offering the same as Samsung with a little more for a little less. We don’t have much use for all this yet, because the X Fold is currently only for sale in China.
