We often think that a small bleeding gum is not worrying. However, this is not normal at all! You don’t have to wait to see your dentist. Left untreated properly, gingivitis can progress over time to periodontitis: the supporting tissues of your teeth are at risk of being destroyed by bacteria that cause deep infection and inflammation. In other words, your teeth are at risk of loosening, and even falling out over time. So, yes to grandmother’s remedies, but also to the dentist!
Salt water reduces inflammation
This old grandmother’s trick effectively soothes swollen, sensitive gums that tend to bleed: salt purifies and decongests.
Recipe :
- Dilute 1 tablespoon of coarse salt in 1 glass of lukewarm or hot water.
- Bathe your mouth with this solution for 1 minute, being careful not to swallow!
- To then eliminate the salty flavor in the mouth, rinse with fresh water.
- Repeat twice a day, after brushing teeth that you do not do without because your gums are sensitive or bleeding. On the contrary, they should be cleaned with a soft brush.
Sage cleanses
Sage is an excellent remedy for treating inflammation of the oral mucosa and sanitizing it well.
Recipe :
- Infuse about 3 g of dried leaves in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes.
- Use as a mouthwash at least twice a day.
- You can also gently massage your gums with a cotton swab dipped in the infusion, or directly chew on fresh sage leaves.
The alternative: massage your gums with a sage gum gel (Weleda, for example).
Lemon calms bleeding
Take a lemon from organic farming. “Cut a piece of the bark and rub the white part directly on your gum”, explains Alessandra Moro Buronzo, naturopath, author of “Natural Remedies for Dummies” (First edition). Do this several times until you see an improvement.
Mouthwashes cleanse
You can use bicarbonate (1 teaspoon in 1 glass of water) to make mouthwashes: bicarbonate has a cleaning power and also antibacterial. Perfect ! This is because inflammation of the gums often occurs as a reaction to attack by plaque bacteria. Another good solution for mouthwashes: those with germander, a plant with antiseptic and healing properties. Put 60 g of leaves in 1 liter of cold water, boil for a few minutes and filter.
Raw stimulates the gums
On the plate, optimize your consumption of raw: anything that you bite into and chew on stimulates the gums and strengthens them. It’s beneficial. And insist on foods rich in vitamin C, as bleeding tends to occur more with a deficit.
For antibacterial action, use propolis oral spray directly on your gums, or chew propolis-based gums.
