The objective of this brochure is to provide clear answers to the main questions that elected representatives ask themselves about organic.
“We are talking about an ecological crisis, an economic crisis, a food crisis. There is an urgent need to act in order to preserve natural resources, in particular water, and the health of the citizens of each territory, declares Serge Orru, Director General of WWF-France. This is why the WWF launched the “yes to organic food in my canteen” campaign to call on all parents of students to mobilize in order to convince the mayors of their municipality to favor products from organic farming in each canteen. school and implement concrete measures to encourage farmers in their area to switch to organic.
For his part, Jacques Roux, President of the SNRC, explains that “faced with the recurring questions of the local authorities with which we are in contact, the objective of this guide and of our alliance with the WWF was to pool our skills in order to provide real enlightenment for elected officials by looking pragmatically on the conditions of the switch to organic ”.
Thus “From organic to the canteen, instructions for use” answers several recurring questions among local decision-makers:
– What is an organic meal?
– Should we switch to 100% organic catering directly?
– Is it better to favor organic or local products?
– What is the “fair” price for organic products?
The guide was distributed to the mayors of towns with more than 5,000 inhabitants and will be sent to all parliamentarians in January 2010. It has met with great success since the WWF and the SNRC have received many congratulatory messages from local communities. The guide will also be distributed throughout the year in trade fairs dedicated to organic and education to raise awareness among all stakeholders.
