What is an air purifier?
The air purifier, also called an air purifier, is a device that filters the air in an enclosed or enclosed area. It captures the air in this place to then release a clean air. The polluted air passes through various filters before exiting depolluted. First, it passes through a pre-filter whose role is to retain the thick particles, generally visible to the naked eye. It can for example be dust or hair, etc. Then, the polluted air passes through an activated carbon filter which has the function of retaining odors, fumes and gases, as well as certain VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Finally, it passes through a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter, similar to those of vacuum cleaners, which has the role of retaining the finest particles, generally invisible to the naked eye. As a rule, the air purifier works in addition to the necessary natural ventilation, in case it is possible to open the windows.
If the air purifier is intended for everyone, it is even more suitable for people suffering from respiratory diseases, asthma or even allergies. Indeed, you should know that all interiors contain polluted air, whatever the place or the season. This is precisely why it is strongly recommended to open the windows for at least 15 minutes each day.
How to choose an air purifier?
Different criteria should be taken into account when choosing an air purifier. Here are the main ones:
- Air flow
Expressed in m3 / hour, it indicates the volume of air that the device can process in 1 hour. In general, this information is supplemented by the surface that the device can cover. It is therefore essential not to undersize the air purifier. The best is to opt for a model with a high air flow in order to treat a room so that it is healthy more quickly.
- The presence of specific filters
Indeed, know for example that some models can be equipped with filters that can capture formaldehyde.
- The options
It can for example be the automatic mode which offers more comfort, lights which indicate the quality of the air or the moment to replace the filters, the programming mode, the night mode or even a possibility of connection. Wireless.
On the other hand, also be aware that some air purifiers can also combine different functions and can be humidifiers, fans or even auxiliary heaters at the same time.
