The game GoldenEye has been banned in Germany for 25 years. Until now, because the ban has been lifted.
GoldenEye 007 is of course based on the James Bond film of the same title, only without the secret agent’s number. The game was launched in 1997 and is a shooter. With more than eight million copies sold worldwide, it is one of the best-selling games for the Nintendo 64. The game was appreciated for its varied assignments. Also, the multiplayer option for four players was something completely new. Unfortunately the game could not be bought in Germany.
GoldenEye no longer banned
The game was banned in the country because it would be harmful to children. Therefore, the game could not be sold in the country. It was also not allowed to advertise. The twenty-five years are not quite over (that’s how long the ban would last), but it has already been lifted. Rumors have it that this is due to a request from Nintendo. Or from an employee of the company, this is what the site writes video game chronicle.
Still remarkable because there are of course much longer games that are much more violent. Think of all Call of Duty games for example.
Other games
In addition to GoldenEye, other games were also banned by the German government. In fact, there is a whole list of games that are blacklisted in Germany. Two other titles are now also based on that. These are the games Blood Rayne 1 & 2. These games will be continued on November 18 in the form of a new version.
There is a lot of speculation about GoldenEye. There would be a successor in the pipeline for the Nintendo Switch. And then of course it would be very annoying if the original game were still on a banned list. Especially in a big country like Germany.
