Deductible to 220 euros anyway
Health insurers offer a lower premium with a higher deductible. That sounds appealing. Or are there risks involved?
It often makes no sense to lower the health care premium by taking out a voluntary deductible of 100 euros or more.
as you in the comparator As you can see, the premium discount for 100 euros extra deductible is only 3 or 4 euros per month. With a higher deductible up to a maximum of 500 euros, the monthly discount is only 15 to 20 euros. That can easily save a family hundreds of euros per year. Provided you don’t get sick, because you have to be very sure that you don’t need a doctor for a year, you want to be financially better off.
Mandatory deductible
Everyone will have to deal with a mandatory deductible of 220 euros next year. This means that patients have to pay the first 220 euros in healthcare costs themselves. That amount is still 170 euros this year. Visit to the general practitioner, obstetric care and maternity care, flu shot and population screening, are not covered.
General practice center
A visit to the GP post at the weekend is also not at the expense of the deductible. But if the general practitioner prescribes medication or has laboratory tests carried out, this will again be at the expense of the compulsory deductible. This also applies to the costs of the pill and other contraceptives.
Voluntary deductible
Insured persons who supplement their compulsory deductible with a voluntary deductible must first consume the compulsory part if they nevertheless require medical care. After that, they have to use their voluntary part before the insurance starts to pay.
The voluntary deductible usually includes the same healthcare costs as the compulsory deductible. The exclusions stated above for the compulsory deductible excess therefore also apply to the voluntary deductible. Insurers have no legal obligation to arrange this in this way. The policy conditions provide information about this. There are voluntary deductibles of 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 euros.
