Playmobil likes to surf on the popularity of cult cars in the cinema. After Ghostbusters, Back to the Future or James Bond, the German brand is now tackling the K 2000 television series. The famous black Pontiac with artificial intelligence will be available in May 2022.
If you can’t afford a full-size KITT replica, Playmobil has the solution. David Hasselhoff (interpreter of the hero Michael Knight) just has to watch out: the toy company reproduced the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am as closely as possible from the 1980s series, with genuinely functional gadgets.
Tribute to the series
KITT (acronym for Knight Industries Two Thousand) is the nickname given to the hero’s car in the American series K2000. This tells the story of Michael Knight, a modern-day vigilante, who will live many adventures at the wheel of his “smart” car. Based on a Pontiac Firebird and in its 1982 vintage Trans Am sports version, the car could reach nearly 320 km/h to give criminals no chance. In reality, the muscle car pulled around 175 hp from its 5.0 l V8 and obviously didn’t go as fast.
The box designed by Playmobil therefore incorporates several elements from the franchise. In addition to the car, three main characters are present: Bonnie Barstow, Devon Miles and the famous Michael Knight. They are accompanied by their accessories like a laboratory and a miniature work desk.
A miniature full of details
The Playmobil model is intended to be as faithful as possible to the car visible on the big screen in K2000. We therefore find this black tint and the red lighting scrolling at the front of the hood, when KITT communicates. More than that, gadgets are present and functional: rotating license plates, removable roof, pop-up headlights and a detailed cockpit.
Another detail that will delight young and old: when you press the cover of the miniature, the latter begins to speak by taking up the cult replicas of the series with eight different sounds. The kit will be marketed in May 2022 at the indicated price of €81.99. And if you want to know more about other products in the range, The argus had made a Christmas list with other Playmobil and Lego creations!
