Google makes it easier for owners to repair smartphones themselves

As the owner of a Google smartphone, it should become easier in the future to repair the device yourself, thanks to a new program.

Google works with iFixit for this. That is a shop where you buy tools for making all kinds of devices. The company also has a popular YouTube channel and well-known website, where it dissects consumer products to see how they are made and constructed.

Buy Google Phone Parts

Through iFixit, it is different parts for people in United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom and some European countries to purchase for their Google smartphones. Think of batteries, screens and cameras. This only applies to the countries where Google officially sells the Pixel phones, from the Pixel 2 from 2017.

Recently, Samsung released the same news. Owners of Samsung smartphones can also buy all kinds of parts for modern devices in the United States, starting from the Galaxy S20. Samsung promises that that program will soon be expanded with support for more smartphones.

This is a logical move by Google, in any case. The company wants consumers to be able to use their smartphones for a long time. Pixel phone owners get a long software support. Much longer compared to devices from other manufacturers: at least five years. Usually smartphones get two to three years worth of updates.

Such support is only worth a lot if your smartphone also lasts a long time. If your smartphone breaks in the meantime and you need a new one, then something is lost in the more durable character of Pixel smartphones.
