After receiving comments, HBO Max steps in and they will no longer stream movies and series that are accelerated in 25 fps.
Did you watch The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies in theaters in 60fps years ago? Presumably you weren’t a fan of watching a movie this way. The film came in for a lot of criticism at the time. For films, but also series, 24 fps is the broadcasting standard. Even a small difference of 1 fps can affect the viewing pleasure. And that brings us to HBO Max in the Netherlands, the content on the service can be seen in 25 fps and is therefore played faster.
HBO Max 25 fps
This was raised on social media by, among others, 3FM DJ Mark van der Molen. The DJ shared on Twitter the information that HBO Max plays the movies and series 4% faster compared to the original. In other words, 25 fps instead of 24 fps. Perhaps the average viewer may not notice it, but the real film lover will of course not enjoy this.
HBO has now officially launched Max in the Netherlands via Twitter make themselves heard. The streaming service says it will solve the problem. The content will be remastered to appear in the service’s library in 24 fps. All’s well that ends well.
