To encourage the French to brush their teeth more often and assess the risk of the onset of cavities or periodontitis, the French Union for Oral Health recently published two tests on its site, free of charge and achievable in just a few minutes. .
Oral health recommendations to prevent cavities from occurring depend on individual risk. Is yours low, moderate or high? To answer this question, dental surgeons from the French Union for Oral Health (UFSBD) have developed two questionnaires aimed at assessing the risks of caries and periodontal diseases.
The principle is simple: all you have to do is answer a series of questions relating to oral hygiene (how many times do you brush your teeth a day?) and provide advice and best practices to prevent the appearance of cavities. “To prevent carious diseases, you should brush your teeth twice a day, once in the morning at breakfast and once in the evening”, can we read for example during the test.
Assess the risk of gingivitis and periodontitis
The other questions, apart from brushing teeth, relate in particular to the use of toothpaste (fluoridated or not), the frequency of visits to the dentist (recommended at least twice a year for a check-up and scaling) or even eating habits (snacking, sugar consumption, etc.). At the end of the test, we obtain a score that can range from 0 to 24: the higher the number, the greater the risk of caries.
The second test concerns the level of knowledge of periodontal diseases and the right steps to take to prevent them. Here again, it only takes a few minutes to answer questions relating in particular to the health of the gums. Periodontics, gingivitis (red, swollen and bleeding gums)… If you have already been diagnosed with these diseases in the past, regular follow-up dental care is necessary.
Another sign that should alert: mobile teeth. Indeed, periodontal diseases are manifested by the destruction of dental supporting tissues such as bones, gums and ligaments.
