Buy Xbox Series X: (where) is it possible?

Still want to get your hands on Microsoft’s top console? We’ve been doing a little snoop on the internet to find out how and where to buy an Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series X launched worldwide on November 10, 2020. That is more than a year ago. Usually the world is storming for new consoles, but it’s not really storming for both the Series X and its counterpart PlayStation 5. That is not the fault of the consumer.

Xbox Series X

Because the Xbox Series X is very popular. Microsoft’s top console guarantees you to be able to play the very best games out there. That requires a top-level chipset, and with the global chip shortage, that turned out to be a problem. Microsoft is nowhere near meeting the interest in Series Xs. You would say that the problems have been solved a year later, but nothing could be further from the truth. Where can you buy an Xbox Series X and more importantly: is it possible at all?

Stores

That last question is easy to answer: it is always possible. However, the Xbox Series X cannot be bought in almost all stores for a while. on Amazon the stock is completely empty. coolblue also doesn’t have an Xbox Series X, but does have a mailing list where you can be kept informed. BCC and Media Markt do it differently: there the price of the Xbox Series X is raised by supplying them in game bundles. However, the price of 749 euros at BCC also does not stop the Xbox fanatics and they also struggle with empty stocks. MediaMarkt talks about being temporarily sold out and they do have a mailing list and, moreover, you can only pick it up in the store. Unfortunately, there is no Xbox Series X in sight either. Please note that Microsoft is slowly adding additional stock and this could change at any time. Hence, those mailing lists are a nice idea to stay on top of.

Second-hand

Might be smarter to buy a pre-owned Xbox Series X. With a bit of luck you’ll find one that has never been out of the box, but otherwise a used one is better than none. There is a fairly wide range for the Xbox Series X on Marktplaats. Note that most people know that they are wanted and many Xbox fanatics willingly throw more money than those 499 euros. So expect prices of more than 550 euros or more if people start bidding for it. The offer of the Xbox Series X on Marktplaats is, as said, fairly spacious, we could find one for less than 500 euros. It is a used copy and we hope it will still be there when you read this a little later.

In short: it is still smart pickings. Stocks are expected to gradually increase, but you could be waiting all of 2022 to buy an Xbox Series X with good stocks.
