A scam that amounts to more than 800,000 euros. A doctor was sentenced Thursday by the Lyon Criminal Court to 4 years in prison. The 61-year-old woman, working in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon, cheated social security through overbilling for her consultations.
In addition to her prison sentence, she will have to repay the sum unduly collected from the Primary Health Insurance Fund of the Rhône and finds herself hit with a definitive ban on exercising a medical profession. The court ordered “the seizure of his bank accounts” as well as a “building in Vaulx-en-Velin”. However, the court did not issue a warrant of committal at the end of the hearing, confirming information from the regional daily Le Progrès. This means that she was not taken into custody after the court ruling.
400,000 euros transferred to Morocco
The scam began in 2011. The doctor notably billed consultations carried out during the day at the night rate, three times higher. It also invoiced acts for all beneficiaries of a Vitale card. Spotted in 2015, she was placed in police custody and then indicted for fraud. In April 2016, after 5 months in pre-trial detention, she was placed under judicial supervision.
These overbillings allowed him to invest in a dozen rental studios in Lyon and in the Alps as well as in a car garage. She also owned an apartment in Marrakech in Morocco and had transferred 400,000 euros to the country, according to an AFP police source.
