Dr. Mark Hyman, who is known across the Atlantic to look 20 years younger than his real age, shared on TikTok the five anti-aging and antioxidant-rich foods he eats every day.
- Dr. Mark Hyman, a medical specialist in aging well, has detailed the 5 foods to eat every day to stay healthy.
- Among other things, he recommends cruciferous vegetables, foods rich in magnesium, fiber or even folate.
- On the fruit side, you can bet on nuts and berries which are very rich in antioxidants.
Dr. Mark Hyman, a 63-year-old American doctor, has adopted certain habits for several years that allow him to stay in good health, but also to reduce his biological age (exact physiological state of the individual) by 20 years. He recently shared on his TikTok account the five foods to put on his plate to ensure “a long and healthy life”.
Cruciferous Vegetables Activate Cellular Detoxification Pathways
Despite all the good nutrients they contain, cruciferous vegetables are not necessarily well identified. “It’s just broccoli and its families like cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts”says the doctor.
“All of this contains compounds that activate cellular detoxification pathways that optimize your mineral status”, adds the expert. The phytonutrients these vegetables contain are known to reduce the risk of inflammation and cancer. They are also good sources of magnesium, folate and fiber which aid digestion.
Dr. Mark Hyman recommends eating one to two cups of cruciferous vegetables daily.
Olive oil: good fats and anti-inflammatory compounds on the plate
The doctor also indicates that he cooks daily with olive oil, the basic product of the Mediterranean diet, and more particularly with extra-virgin. “It has been shown to contain all sorts of anti-inflammatory compounds”he says in his video.
And more “to have good taste”the product is rich in healthy monounsaturated fats and contains high amounts of antioxidants.
“Good fats are good for you”, he explains. “You need to make sure you’re getting lots of good fats, and olive oil is a great way to do that.”
Nuts and seeds boost longevity
Nuts and seeds are particularly present in doctor’s meals. He integrated them, because they are “full of minerals, fats, proteins and fibers”. The specialist recalls that several studies have shown that these foods help increase longevity or even reduce diabetes.
This class of food also has the advantage of being very varied and thus avoiding monotony on the plate. Among other things, Dr. Hyman recommends snacking on almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds or even sesame seeds.
Red fruits to fill up on antioxidants
Cranberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries…. Fruits are known to be great allies of the body. They protect it with the many “antioxidants” And “phytochemicals“that they contain.
“These phytochemicals activate the longevity pathways we all need to activate our healing systems, which is key to staying young forever.“, specifies the doctor in his video.
Green tea protects against diseases
Dr. Hyman also consumes green tea daily. If the professional has included this drink in his list of anti-aging foods, it is because he “contains all of these phytochemicals [et] catechins”. “They have been shown to activate the longevity switches and pathways in our body that keep us young and healthy”he says.
Several studies have, in fact, shown that compounds in green tea can help protect against cancer and heart disease, as well as potentially increase lifespan.
And if you don’t like this drink, Dr. Hyman offers another tea: an infusion made from wild sage. It is drunk by many inhabitants of Ikaria where he stayed. This Greek island is known to be part of the blue zones, places where the number of centenarians is higher than the world average.
